WEEE and RoHS
This information is being provided in an effort to assist Onset customers who are researching the impact of the European Union’s RoHS and WEEE directives on their business. The initial directives referred to in this correspondence are Directive 2002/95/EC dated 1/27/03 for RoHS, and Directive 2002/96/EC dated 1/27/03 for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
This information is based on our current understanding. It is the responsibility of each Onset customer to determine how the RoHS and WEEE directives apply to their own products, or products that incorporate an Onset product. Please do not hesitate to contact Onset's customer service team at customer_service@onsetcomp.com if you have questions concerning Onset's position regarding the WEEE and the RoHS directives.
Helpful links pertaining to both directives can be found here:
- Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
- Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS)
WEEE Statement
The WEEE directive is intended to prevent waste consisting of electrical and electronic equipment from being introduced to the waste stream, and places the responsibility for disposal, and or recycling, of WEEE on its producer. The WEEE directive also defines 10 product categories for differentiating electrical and electronic equipment covered by it and the RoHS directive. As of the directive’s effective date of August 13, 2005, all our applicable products are labeled with the WEEE-approved recycle bin marking (see below)
Products purchased from an Authorized dealer should be returned to that dealer for disposal.
For detailed information on the WEEE directive, please visit European Commission
ROHS Statement
Onset Computer Corporation certifies that, as of July 22, 2014, all of its Data Logger products are RoHS compliant. All products conform to the Recast RoHS Directive 2015/863/EU of the European Union’s Restriction on Use of Hazardous Substances in Monitoring and Control Instruments (including Industrial Monitoring and Control Instruments).

All products produced by Onset Computer Corporation (Onset), a United States of America Corporation, although not subject to REACH Regulations, are to the best of our knowledge in conformity of REACH. This declaration is based on the fact that Onset is a manufacturer of Articles, our understanding of the REACH Directive, and the ECHA Guidance document entitled “Guidance on Requirements for Substances in Articles," dated 1 April 2011.
This declaration is based upon the following:

Reese’s Law 117-171 Exemption Statement
Onset Computer Corporation is exempt from Reese’s Law 117-171 which was enacted on August 16, 2022. Reese’s Law was enacted to eliminate or adequately reduce the risk of injury from ingestion of button cell or coin batteries by children six years old and younger and Onset Computer Corporation agrees with this initiative. Although, the exemption is allowed under Section 1.3 of UL 4200A-2023 which is listed below. The statement, “such as products for dedicated professional use or commercial use in locations where children are not normally or typically present” is valid to the listed products in Table 1. These products are used by professionals or in commercial and industrial environments where children are not typically present.
This exemption applies to labeling, packaging and battery accessibility requirements.
Section 1.3 of UL 4200A-2023 also states that the standard does not include “products that by virtue of their dedicated purpose and instructions are not intended to be used in locations where they may be accessed by children, such as products for dedicated professional use or commercial use in locations where children are not normally or typically present.” The Commission interprets this exclusion from the scope of the standard consistent with the Commission's jurisdictional authority in section 3 of the CPSA. For example, products used solely in professional settings are within the jurisdiction of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. However, consumer products generally available for use or purchase by consumers are within the Commission's jurisdiction. 15 U.S.C. 2052(a)(5).
Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the Securities and Exchange Commission Rules adopted in connection therewith, require certain corporations to report the use of “Conflict Minerals” in the manufacture of their products. Generally, Conflict Minerals collectively refers to cassiterite, columbite-tantalite, gold, wolframite, or their derivatives, including tantalum, tin and tungsten, which originate from the Democratic Republic of the Congo or specified adjoining countries (referred to herein as "Covered Countries").
While we, as a privately held corporation, are not subject to the Conflict Minerals rules and reporting requirements, we understand that our customers may be, and we are committed to helping our customers comply with their reporting requirements.
In order to determine if our manufactured products contain Conflict Minerals, we have conducted a survey of our key suppliers to ascertain their use of any Conflict Minerals in the materials they supply to us. The results of that survey demonstrate that our key suppliers (i) do not use Conflict Minerals in the materials they supply to us, (ii) have no reason to believe the Conflict Minerals they use may have originated in the Covered Countries, and/or (iii) reasonably believe that the Conflict Minerals they use are from recycled or scrap sources. Consequently, we can in turn represent that, to the best of our knowledge, our manufactured products either do not contain Conflict Minerals, or to the extent they may, such products are "DRC conflict free" as defined by paragraph (e)(4) of Section 1502.
We will continue to work with our key suppliers to ensure that we are able to identify the use of Conflict Minerals in our supply chain, and the representations made in this compliance statement remain accurate.
