Data Loggers for Water Quality & Compliance Monitoring

Water quality monitoring solutions that support programs protecting ecosystems and sustain our water resources for the future.

Protecting the Quality of Our Most Vital Resource

Water quality changes with location, depth, weather, and time of day. A monitoring program needs measurements that match the ecosystem and the question being investigated: temperature and dissolved oxygen in fish habitat, conductivity and salinity in an estuary, or pH near an area being assessed for environmental impacts.

HOBO data loggers and compatible remote monitoring systems help build records of these conditions in streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands, and coastal waters. Select individual Bluetooth loggers, a configured MX800 multiparameter logger, or a HOBOnet system with compatible sensors to suit the measurement and data-access requirements. Reliable records also depend on representative placement, appropriate logging intervals, calibration, cleaning, and documented quality checks. These measurements support environmental assessments and compliance reporting alongside the methods and other evidence required by the monitoring program.

Key Measurements for Water Quality Monitoring

Temperature

Document daily and seasonal changes in aquatic habitats and compare conditions between sites or depths. Temperature records provide context for dissolved oxygen measurements and studies of fish, plants, and other organisms.

Conductivity/Salinity

Track changes in dissolved-ion content and freshwater–saltwater mixing. These measurements help characterize estuaries, coastal habitats, and other waters where conductivity varies.

Dissolved Oxygen

Measure oxygen conditions available to aquatic organisms and follow variation across locations, depths, and times of day. Pair dissolved oxygen with temperature and other relevant data to investigate habitat conditions.

pH

Track pH changes in streams, lakes, estuaries, and other study areas. Compare measurements with the project’s objectives and applicable monitoring requirements.

Light

Measure photosynthetically active radiation to study underwater light availability for seagrass, kelp, and other aquatic plants. Consider measurement depth, sensor orientation, shading, and fouling when interpreting the record.

Water Level

Track changes in depth or stage alongside water quality measurements to interpret conditions during tides, storms, and changing flows.
