HOBOnet® Wireless Sensor Network

Collect soil, weather, and water data across your monitoring sites to support informed decisions in agriculture, environmental monitoring, and research.

A Flexible, Scalable, Remote Wireless Monitoring System

Build a HOBOnet system to compare conditions across farm fields, research plots, restoration areas, and other monitoring sites. Compatible wireless sensors send measurements to a central HOBO station, which uploads data to LI-COR Cloud for remote access.

For outdoor deployments, choose a MicroRX Station for HOBOnet (RX2106), or an RX3000 station with a HOBOnet Manager. Select sensors and radio frequencies appropriate for your region, and plan power, wireless coverage, cellular coverage, and an active RX data plan before installation.

Track local wind conditions across field or environmental monitoring sites.

Leaf Wetness

Record leaf-surface wetness to support compatible disease-risk analyses.

Barometric Pressure

Add pressure measurements using a compatible sensor and supported station input.

Water Level

Monitor water-level changes using a compatible sensor and HOBOnet interface.

Reference Evapotranspiration

Calculate reference ET from compatible temperature, humidity, wind, and solar radiation measurements.

How to Set Up A Remote Sensor Network

Step 1

Mount the RX station, a wireless receiver, and any sensors

Step 2

Install and link any RX wireless sensors

Step 3

Configure sensors, logging rates, alarms, and more via LI-COR Cloud

Step 4

View your data and receive alerts on your computer or mobile device

Key Advantages of a HOBOnet Wireless Sensor Network

  • Connect up to 50 wireless sensors through a compatible RX station.
  • Combine wireless sensors and supported station inputs to match your monitoring requirements.
  • Use a mesh network to relay sensor data to the station, with coverage planned for the site's terrain, vegetation, and structures.
  • Review measurements remotely through LI-COR Cloud dashboards.
  • Configure measurement thresholds and receive notifications when those thresholds are crossed.

How Does a Wireless Sensor Network Help Growers?

  • Compare soil moisture and local weather to guide irrigation timing.
  • Set temperature thresholds and receive alerts that support frost-response decisions.
  • Use compatible measurements with crop disease and insect-pest models, including supported NEWA configurations.
  • Review field conditions over time to inform crop-management practices.

Environmental Monitoring Beyond the Farm

HOBOnet also supports environmental monitoring and field research. Place compatible sensors across a study area to compare soil conditions, local weather, or water levels over time. Shared access in LI-COR Cloud helps teams review measurements from dispersed sites and document changes during seasonal studies or restoration monitoring.

Choose sensors to match your research question, then plan the station location, wireless coverage, power, and cellular connection for the site.
